June Update
Guesss what we’ve been seeing?

These are the days when you never know what your dive day might serve up! With humpbacks migrating north at the moment chances are good that a trip out to sea might also include an incredible display of breaching and tail slapping. These pics were taken last weekend as we were headed out for a dive. A group of 4 whales cruised by the boat, entertaining as they went along. Ulladulla in general is a great place for whale watching as the whales pass closely by. Being out on the dive boat for an “up close and personal” is even better!
Winter is here and for divers that means rugging up for some of the best diving conditions of the year! Even though we all hate the icy temps that the westerly winds bring, we LOVE the flat seas that they give us. We’ve had some brilliant days out lately, glassy flat seas and water temps that are still steady at around 18 degrees. As the water becomes cooler it is important to layer up for diving and to make sure you have warm, windproof clothing to put on between dives. Good exposure protection makes winter diving a breeze and if you need some advice about how to keep warm so you dont miss out, give us a call! If you’re keen to keep diving this winter, read on.....we’ve got lots happening!!!
Dive with Seals at Montague Island - Sunday July 12

These guys are so much fun to dive with. If you play, they play! They will mimic if you “dance’, so dont be shy! During winter, Montague Island is home to up to 1600 Australian Fur Seals. It’s a non breeding colony which means all males, no babies, no shark problem :-) Every diver who experiences the friendliness of these cute, playful, wide-eyed creatures emerges with a smile as big as the seals! It’s an easy dive with most of the seals sunbaking on the surface close by as the boat pulls up to anchor. But once the first diver enters the water they just can’t help themselves and come charging over to show off their agility to the strange clumsy creatures with bottles on their backs. Montague Island is off Narooma, about an hour and a half south of Ulladulla. We’ll meet at the Narooma Wharf at 9.30am and head out for a double dive. Cost is $110, gear hire extra. Call the shop to book a spot!
Dive Fish Rock Cave - July 25/26
Our trip to Fish Rock was postponed last month due to massive flooding in South West Rocks, so it’s on again! Wes will be co-ordinating this trip and bookings can be made by calling the shop.
May Update

Even though air temps have cooled down over the last month, ocean temps are still lagging behind (yay!) Our sunny autumn days are keeping us warm between dives and with good vis still hanging round, diving has been great!
Many divers thoughts turn tropical in winter and we’re no different. Diving on the south coast is often at its very best during the winter months for things like vis, sea conditions & whale encounters but theres nothing like heading out for a break in paradise! Nine very chilled out divers returned recently from an amazing week in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea. This would have to be one of the most laid back, peaceful dives destinations in the world and it was wonderful to wind down & settle into the PNG way of life. We dived wrecks, reefs, passages and bommies. It was awesome!!!
Our next trip away will be to Vanuatu to dive the wreck of the SS President Coolidge, in November this year.
We still have a couple of places available on our trip to South West Rocks to dive Fish Rock Cave, May 30/31. If you love sharks you’ll looooove these dives. Grey Nurse Sharks are the highlight here! We’ll do 4 dives over two days, accommodation, airfills and breakfast are included in the trip price of $295. Be quick to grab one of the last spots!
We have another Advanced Course scheduled for June 13 & 14. This course is suitable for anyone who is keen to improve their diving skills and to have a bit of fun along the way! Even if you’ve only just learnt to dive you’ll find that the skills & experiences offered in the course will bring your diving confidence along in leaps & bounds. We look at Deep Diving & Underwater Navigation and you’ll choose some dives that you’d like to do from a selection of options such as Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search & Recovery, Fish ID & more! The course cost is $395 which includes all your learning materials, hire of tanks & weights and five course dives. If you’d like to know more please feel free to contact us for some more info!
